ABSTRACT

Many of the video effects we see regularly on our TV screens are used for their sheer pizzazz – to create an exciting visual impact. Pictures unfold, break up into fragments, rotate, transform in intriguing ways . . . But for the small production unit with limited resources, electronic effects can play a far more important role. They provide a way of building up totally realistic illusions quickly, and at low cost, that would not otherwise be quite impracticable. With a little time, patience, and imagination, you can create outstanding results! Seeing is believing? A whole range of video trickery is just the result of carefully controlled switching processes. Not particularly interesting? Well, let’s look at an example of how useful even the simplest effects can be. We have two pictures: A woman standing in front of Camera 1. A videotape showing a street scene.
