ABSTRACT

Have you seen how casually some people use their video camera? They adopt a ‘point and squirt’ approach, assuming that automatic circuits will take care of the problem. After all, they might argue, the camera is not gobbling up costly film. It is easy to discard anything you don’t want. It is only when they come to check over the results later, that they too often seem disappointing. Many shots are plain boring. The audience’s attention will wander. Picture quality varies. Subjects are not all that clear. Editing looks clumsy. This is a pity, considering that by mastering a handful of working principles, you can produce effective pictures with a professional polish!
