2.2 Encouraging creativity and innovation Creativity has been defined as ‘the thinking of novel and appropriate ideas’ and innovation as ‘the successful implementation of those ideas within an organization’. These days the pace of change has placed a premium on the ability of organizations to think of novel and appropriate ideas and to implement these successfully. Those unable to do so will find themselves left behind as other organizations prove themselves able to do so. This is as true in the public and voluntary sectors as it is in the private sector.
