ABSTRACT
Many social attitudes have changed in recent years. Of special significance here is changed attitudes towards authority. Many staff are reluctant to accept whatever they are told just because it comes from a person in authority. This may be a positive development, but for supervisors – who can no longer simply hide behind their ‘badge’ – it requires them to develop the self-confidence and competence to deal with questioning members of their teams.
