ABSTRACT
After an accident has occurred, a number of official investigations can be undertaken at the discretion of many different agencies. These may include the police, the fire authorities, the Environment Agency and a number of more specialised bodies, such as the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, the Marine Accident Investigation Branch, the Air Accident Investigation Branch and, when established, the Rail Accident Investigation Branch.
