ABSTRACT

A workplace accident can have a major impact on a workforce. The injured parties may feel isolated and abandoned if they are off sick. A plan for rehabilitation, getting the injured person or people back to work where that is possible, forms part of the planning response to the accident. Where colleagues are injured or even killed then there may be a potent mix of grief, guilt and anger in those who are not injured. It is important to manage the developing situation sensitively, considering all affected parties, in order to achieve resolution of the incident and a return or move forward to safer working practices.
