ABSTRACT

Scene salvage covers a broad range of issues that all have one thing in commonsomething is wrong with the picture and you have to fi x it. Sometimes these are production accidents such as a scratch on the fi lm, a hair in the gate, fl ashing frames, or a light leak. Insurance money often pays for these. Sometimes they are preplanned, post-production processes such as wire and rig removal where it was planned to fi x them after principal photography anyway. Then sometimes it is just a normal part of life like dust busting. Many of the tasks described here are considered entry-level work and may be the fi rst type of job you get when starting your career in digital compositing.
