Light and shade WHEN WE COMBINE IMAGES from several different sources, we can scale them, rotate them and distort them to fit the space – but they still won’t look quite right. In order to achieve a true realistic appearance, we need to add shadows. Whether they’re cast on the ground, the wall or on other objects, it’s shadows that will help your montages to work as complete images, and look less like obvious compositions.
