ABSTRACT

A proper soundtrack requires a commitment of time and money—nowhere near as much as for good visuals, but a commitment nonetheless. In many cases, can trade these resources and spend a few dollars more for the sake of convenience, or work a little harder to save money. Many productions hire a specialist just to provide a clean audio feed to record in the video camera. It can be cheaper, and greatly simplifies postproduction, but can introduce its own problems. Save money by getting audio equipment from a company that specializes in film sound rentals, rather than from where getting the camera. These companies understand how good audio equipment, when treated properly, will be serviceable for a long time. Video rental companies expect all equipment to become obsolete as quickly as digital cameras do. Expendables Most wireless mics use a standard 9-volt alkaline battery and burn through them quickly: to be safe, allow three battery changes per mic per day.
