ABSTRACT
A WIDE range of work awaits the young reporter starting a first job on a local paper. The smaller the paper the more varied the work, for an editor with a modest budget will be less able to call upon speciaists for particular tasks, and in emergencies quite important jobs can fall upon young shoulders. This is one of the valuable aspects of training on a local paper.
