If our goals are to uncover processes of revolution and reinvention, it is impossible to get far without examining one of the most amazing stories of business achievement in the last twenty years—Michael Dell's creation and continual reinvention of the process by which personal computers go to market. Dell has built. since 1984. a Fortune 500 company operating globally and achieving sales of around $17 billion by 1998. and with profit results constantly outstripping market expectations. He did this be reinventing the way in which personal computers (PCs) are bought and constantly refining his company's processes to deliver superior value to customers.
