ABSTRACT

The memories of most of today's systems need to store more than a few bytes of data. Larger amounts are rated in:

• Kilobyte (Kb): A kilobyte is 1024 bytes. Note that it is not 1000 bytes, as one might expect from the meaning of 'kilo' in the metric system. A kilobyte of memory is enough to store a short document, such as half a page of text. It could also store the instructions for operating a simple circuit such as an automatic dishwasher.
