CHARACTERS IN AN INTERACTIVE ENVIRONMENT Characters are an essential element of all forms of storytelling, from our ancestors’ oral recitations of myths and epics to today’s high-tech computer-assisted narratives. Characters pull us into the story and give it life. We empathize with our heroes and identify with their struggles; we fear the villains and long to see them defeated. Thanks to characters, both noble and malevolent, we connect with the story on a deep emotional level.
