For this particular image, the works of Velázquez (color palette), Caravaggio (dramatic and tenebrism lighting) and El Greco have inspired me greatly. Regarding El Greco, I was thinking particularly of The Gentleman of the Hand in the Chest, to whose composition this image owes a lot. I have exercised some license naming my creation Mister Quixote, intending this to be a tribute to the famous personage. This contemporary Quixote is more of a Quixote for his lunatic behavior, than by any historical resemblance. We would think of a Quixote with a beard and a white moustache, wearing his armor. Nevertheless, the most important aspect in this image has been to achieve an expression of real insanity, keeping at the same time the dignity of an anonymous elder.
