ABSTRACT

Although this subject was covered briefl y in Chapter 7, I want to go over this in a little more detail as I believe it is very important. The rule of thirds is probably the most common rule of composition. Feel free to Google it to see how different people and industries explain it. It is commonly used in 3D, fi ne art, design, and photography, and is really well documented and taught-justifi ably so, as it is the main guideline responsible for well-composed images and renders. The rule of thirds (or sometimes known as “the golden section ” ) was documented as early as 1757 in a book as a rule for proportioning scenic paintings, but was used much earlier as well.
