ABSTRACT

There is a special control, additional to the development controls dealt with in the earlier part of this book, that applies to buildings of special architectural or historic interest. This special control has a more detailed relevance to the problem of the preservation of such buildings. This chapter also deals with the related policy concerning conservation areas: the object here is the preservation and enhancement of areas of special architectural or historic interest. A number of special areas that give further protection to the countryside, and the protection to ancient monuments and archaeological areas, are more briefly described.
