ABSTRACT
The unit provides a broad introduction to the role of the engineer. As they study the unit, students will investigate the role of an engineer in the design and/or manufacture of an engineered product or service. They will need to understand how new technologies, time and cost constraints, legislation and standards, and health and safety legislation influence engineering decisions and they must be able to relate these factors to the context of their own investigations.
