ABSTRACT

International Cultural Differences 3 So far we have looked at how small groups form and develop and how organisational

culture forms and develops. Now it is appropriate to look at international cultural

differences so that we can have some sense of how these differences impact on small

group norms and organisational cultures and subcultures. When we looked at the formation and development of small groups, we noted that

this can be seen as going through a process of forming, storming and norming so that

they can subsequently perform in a satisfactory manner. In engineering departments

there is a pattern of internationalism that is reflected in the large international mixture of

students; and increasingly engineering firms and consultancies are staffed by a growing

mixture of nationalities, and work in a growing range of countries.
