ABSTRACT
This chapter seeks to explore a qualitative research methodology that aims to
study, understand and articulate how people make sense of themselves and
each other in everyday life – ethnomethodology. Simply stated, ethnometh-
odology is a form of discourse analysis (refer to the chapter on Discourse
Analysis). In the field of sport management research, ethnomethodology has
to date been largely ignored. In this chapter, we explore some of the basic
tenets of ethnomethodology and how these can be applied to the field of sport
management research in useful and practical ways that can facilitate the
development of practices that enhance sport management education. This
will aid in the positive development of praxis within the sport management
community that can enhance in a positive way the experience and engage-
ment of members of the sport management community.
