ABSTRACT

This chapter presents two emerging approaches that have significance for

sport management research. The first section discusses the process of glob-

alization and how it has impacted the study of sport. Its various definitions

are presented and its implications for sport management research are out-

lined. The next section introduces the research approach of postcolonialism.

It defines what this term means and provides a context for how it may be

applied in sport management settings. Through this new theoretical lens, it

is suggested that postcolonial sport management research has the potential

to add new insights into the body of knowledge that informs sport

management practice.
