ABSTRACT
The chapter begins with an explanation of the historical context of the
management in English football and how, in particular, the long period of
stability between professionalisation in the 1880s and commercialisation at
the end of the twentieth century made the onset of commercialisation an
exciting challenge for managers and yet led to some of the obstacles that dog
management even today.
