ABSTRACT

These days, many digital artists come to work right out of a computer science or digital arts program, and have never actually worked on a live set with a real movie camera. The lens captures, focuses, and transmits light from the outside world to the film in the camera and creates the image, where one ultimately will use in the artist's shot. When the camera is stationary, a short lens will give a much broader angle of view than a long lens. To have a subject appear the same size in frame using two different focal lengths, the camera has to be moved in relation to the subject, affecting and the relationship between the background and foreground. A focus change is essentially a mini-zoom; to change the focal point of the lens, one must actually change the position of the lens in the housing.
