ABSTRACT

Aperture provides powerful tools for adding, editing and searching metadata. The Camera Info pane at the top of the Metadata Inspector displays basic EXIF metadata including the camera model, lens, and ISO and exposure information. The first kind - sometimes referred to as EXIF metadata - is easy to deal with because, for the most part, it's added automatically and digital photographer can't edit it, but digital photographer can use it as the basis for searching for photos. The second kind, usually known as IPTC metadata, is added and edited manually, after the event. The International Press and Telecommunications Council is a consortium of news agencies that developed the standard for added image metadata of this kind. The bottom panel in the Batch Change dialog box contains an 'Add Metadata From' pop-up menu which allows digital photographer to add selective metadata from digital photographer's presets.
