ABSTRACT
A number of materials are used to form the structural element of a flat roof but, in the case of
dwellings, although concrete is not uncommon the majority are probably timber. The waterproof
covering can be any one of a number of materials – asphalt, single-ply sheet, multi-layer mineral felt,
metals such as lead, zinc, copper or aluminium, or even glass reinforced plastic.
