ABSTRACT
World War Two was unique. It has been the sole war to involve all the major powers: unlike in World War One, China was a serious combatant and Japan played a major role, while the USA was directly involved for much of the conflict and in both the European and the Pacific theatres. Due to the powers involved, the geography of the war was also different, with far more of an emphasis on the Pacific and on East and South-East Asia than in World War One. Furthermore, unlike in World War One, air power was important from the outset, not only to land conflict but also to war at sea, as well as in its own strategic terms in the shape of bombing campaigns.
