ABSTRACT

Businesses exist as agencies of economic exchange. From this perspective, leaders are primarily concerned with achieving the economic goals of those businesses they are part of. Business leaders are judged on commercial grounds, and ethics come into the picture only if the business is economically damaged through charges of unethical practices. Ethics are relevant only as they introduce economic costs for compliance or non-compliance. In other words, ethical standards are established as rules and regulations, providing guidelines through which businesses are able to pursue their economic goals.
