ABSTRACT

Hemoglobin can also carry CO, from respiring tissues and release it in the lungs, where it can be exhaled. The binding of CO, to hemoglobin is reversible. Carbon monoxide (CO) can also bind to hemoglobin (200 times more avidly than O2), and the resultant low amount of oxygenated hemoglobin in erythro cytes can lead to death.
