ABSTRACT

AChE inhibitors such as neostigmine can be administered to reverse the action of curare after surgery, by making more ACh available in the synaptic cleft. This drug can also be given to patients with myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disease that causes a low density of nAChRs at the NMJ. These drugs result in a higher availability of ACh at the remaining functional nAChRs, and attenuation of the symptoms of the disease.
