ABSTRACT

What is motivation? Children are active creatures, often surprisingly so. Tobias Lindseth Melsbu, for instance. In August 2001, when he was aged three, he was reported to have driven the family minibus back home after nursery school. Tobias, from Ramsund, a Norwegian town, 125 miles north of the Arctic Circle, took the keys, turned on the ignition and cruised home. He took in a slope, two 90-degree turns, a creek and a sharp swing into the family driveway. He crashed into the garage door but was unhurt. He had developed his driving skills while sitting on his mother’s lap as she drove.
