ABSTRACT
Bataille is most noted for his directing work during the 1930s and 1940s of experimental Surrealist plays, by authors such as Ionesco, including the first performances of Ionesco’s still-running The Bald Primadonna (La Cantatrice chauve). After the war, he worked mainly in the small theatres of the Latin Quarter.
