ABSTRACT

If effective learning is to take place, the classroom climate needs to be supportive, unthreatening, encouraging and sensitive to individuals. Children need to feel confident so that they can risk getting something wrong. As the teacher you need to be friendly to all children, yet sufficiently detached to be able to be objective about identifying children’s needs. You need to be kind but firm and consistent in dealing with everyone in the class and teacher/pupil relationships need to be based on mutual respect.
