ABSTRACT

‘The only real danger that exists is man himself’, said Carl Jung. The terrible truth of this dictum has been sadly evident in recent years. School security has been highlighted by such tragedies as the murder by stabbing of the London head teacher Philip Lawrence in 1995 and by the fatal shooting of children in a school gymnasium in Dunblane Primary School, Scotland in 1996. Arson, vandalism and theft cost British schools tens of millions of pounds each year.
