ABSTRACT
Bad behaviour may be tolerable when it is witty. An example is the behaviour of the Oxbridge don who said of a colleague, ‘Such time as he can spare from the adornment of his person, he devotes to the neglect of his duties’. Of course, in schools the question of discouraging unacceptable behaviour and encouraging appropriate conduct is a more serious matter.
