ABSTRACT

In this concluding chapter, I offer some final thoughts on the promotion of school success for Chicano students. Focus will be on a synthesis of ideas presented by the various contributors of this volume. Based on our discussion thus far, the task here is to address how Chicano school success might be realized. We tackle this inquiry by zeroing in on the following specific areas: (a) keeping Chicanos in school, (b) the academic and social contexts of schooling, (c) the Mexican American English language learner and bilingual education, (d) Chicano parental involvement in schooling, (e) the assessment context of schooling, and (f) democratic education.
