ABSTRACT

In the previous three chapters, we have seen the current situation of C-Life from the employees' point of view. How are they responding to these changing, uncertain circumstances? This is the subject of the current chapter. Here, I discuss the employees profiled in the NHK television programme. The focus is on the different strategies being developed by employees to cope with the changing economic realities facing them. In the programme I aimed to examine what was happening with mid-career employees at a large Japanese company after ten years of economic downturn. In this period of enormous change and turbulence I expected the employees to be facing difficult choices about their work and future careers.
