ABSTRACT
Plains are large flat areas that have several types of origin. If they are uplifted they become plateaus. A theme in much of this book is that many mountains are plateaus or dissected plateaus, so we need to elaborate somewhat on plains and planation surfaces. Similarly, most dissection takes place in river valleys, and we have used drainage as evidence supporting some of our assertions, so we also need to cover drainage in some more detail.
