ABSTRACT

Marie Clay (presented in 2002) Marie Clay's own education began in Wellington, New Zealand, at the East Girls' College and at the Wellington Teachers' College. Her first degrees were gained from the University of New Zealand and she also studied in the United States and completed a doctorate at the University of Auckland in 1966. After teaching in primary schools and working as a psychologist her main career was at the University of Auckland. Appointed to a lectureship in 1960, she progressed rapidly through the academic ranks, being awarded a chair in 1975 and twice serving as head of the Education department.
