Mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI), although quite prevalent, is still poorly understood. MTBI incidence, which is likely underestimated, accounts for approximately 80% of the estimated 373,000 traumatic brain injuries that occur each year in the US. accidents and its victims are typically young males 15-24 years of age. Postconcussional sequelae may impede physical, emotional, social, marital, vocational, and avocational functioning. Awareness of community resources is a prerequisite to providing neuromedical, as well as non-medical services to this special patient population. The Brain Injury Association (BIA) is an excellent resource for information on brain injury for professionals, “survivors”, and families (Kraus & McArthur, 1995).
