Mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI), although quite prevalent, is still poorly understood. MTBI incidence, which is likely underestimated, accounts for approximately 80% of the estimated 373,000 traumatic brain injuries that occur each year in the US. The most frequent cause of MTBI is motor vehicle

accidents and its victims are typically young males 15-24 years of age. Postconcussional sequelae may impede physical, emotional, social, marital, vocational, and avocational functioning. Awareness of community resources is a prerequisite to providing neuromedical, as well as non-medical services to this special patient population. The Brain Injury Association (BIA) is an excellent resource for information on brain injury for professionals, “survivors”, and families (Kraus & McArthur, 1995).
