ABSTRACT

Prophecy, which may be understood as the prediction of future things (usually through divine inspiration), has had a close relationship with millenarianism and millennial movements throughout world history. In the Book of Revelation (95-96 CE), which may be taken as the basis for early Christian millenarianism, it was predicted that after his Second Coming, Christ would establish a messianic kingdom on the earth before reigning over it for a thousand years before the Last Judgment (Revelation 20:4-6). The most holy Christian martyrs would be resurrected to live under Christ’s s rule over a thousand years before the general resurrection of the dead.
