ABSTRACT

The concept of fatalism is often associated with apocalyptic belief systems and millennialist movements. Fatalism is commonly understood as the belief that certain events and experiences are inevitable, unalterable, and determined by external forces beyond human control. Millennialist worldviews frequently express a belief in the inevitability of current and future events, which are interpreted as a predetermined part of a divine pattern or superhuman plan. The idea of fate embodies the sense of inevitability, both pessimistic and optimistic, that is inherent to apocalyptic and millennialist worldviews.
