ABSTRACT

The nuclear age began formally on 6 August 1945, when the United States dropped the atomic bomb on the unsuspecting city of Hiroshima. The city was completely destroyed. Nearly 100,000 people died instantaneously, while another 100,000 perished more slowly and painfully. Three days later a second bomb hit Nagasaki, though somewhat off-target and consequently with less damage. In a flash, millennialism took on new meanings in human history.
