ABSTRACT

We are, then, a cosmologically dispossessed culture, a culture clinging to a bankrupt worldview which prescribes a cramped materialistic individualism, the consequences of which we are presently reaping. That we need cosmological rehabilitation is drastically apparent. Is the time for a shift to the alternative-monistic-metaphysical archetype which I mentioned in the previous chapter at hand? Such a metaphysic can only serve our culture as a worldview, complete with ideological dimensions, if we have independent grounds for adopting it. Since we have, for the reasons already outlined, accepted science as the source of cosmological discovery, we cannot simply select the cosmology that we find ideologically most appealing. If monism is to become the basis for a new worldview, it needs the sanction of science.
