ABSTRACT
When most children come into nursery, they are able to chat with adults and friends, and they have developed a large vocabulary of words that convey wishes and ideas and give explanations. Some children, even at the age of 3, can enter the realms of fantasy and show by their expressive use of words that they are developing a wonderful imagination. Adults have to be able to join in, in order to extend the children’s learning, but this is an extremely demanding task, one that is open to derision by the children if it is not gauged correctly! But sadly, not all children can cope at this level of talk.
