ABSTRACT
It is the fashion to bandy figures about extinction rates in the present wildlife holocaust. Extinction is said to be running at 25,000 times the natural rate. By the year 2000, one million animals and plants will have been driven to extinction, and the extinction rate will have soared to several species per hour! By 2050, half the species alive today could have gone. And, as they say, extinction is forever.
