ABSTRACT

Successful management of subcontract work begins well before any work starts on site with the choice of the packages to be subcontracted and with care in the selection of subcontractors. Once the Subcontract has been let then Site Production Management must be made aware of the attendances and the budget. This chapter presents the analysis of the CECA Blue Form of Subcontract and commentary on the NEC Subcontract Form in the Subcontract Appendix. The Subcontractor's Project Manager must ensure that all instructions from the Contractor are in writing and only instructions from source are complied with. The new post-award enquiry should enclose all relevant drawings, specifications and the appropriate section of the unpriced Bill of Quantities clearly indicating all items which are to be priced, together with the essential details of the main contract and the required period for completion of the subcontract works.
