ABSTRACT
The evidence above, strictly speaking, is only for the presence of a positive association between the productivity gap and the rate of productivity change; no causality is implied. However, the evidence can be interpreted as consistent with the notion that the gap is an aggregate indicator of some of the factors that influence the rate of international technological transfer and hence the growth rates of innovation and labour productivity in the technologyimporting countries.
