ABSTRACT
Subsidence of the ground surface takes place when mineral deposits, be they gas, fluid or solid, are removed from within the ground. It reflects the movements that occur in the area undergoing extraction or abstraction. Unfortunately, subsidence can have serious effects on surface structures, be responsible for flooding, and lead to the sterilization of land, and can call for special constructional design in site development or extensive remedial measures in developed areas.
