ABSTRACT

“I am Joaquin/Yo Soy Joaqufn” (minorities) A short, bilingual epic poem that celebrates the common culture, language and history of Mexican Americans. It was the earliest and most important literary work of the CHICANO MOVEMENT because it uses myths and memories to create a CHICANO identity. It was written in both English and Spanish in 1964 by Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales (born in 1929). It was performed as a play in the TEATRO CAMPESINO; in 1967, it was made into a film.
