ABSTRACT

In the past, information texts were used much less than other texts, particularly stories. As we explain in Chapter 14, ‘Genre and the process of writing’, the genre theorists have been influential in reminding us about the importance of a range of genres including information texts. Since the advent of the Framework for Teaching the specific strand ‘Non-Fiction: Reading Comprehension’ has been established. This means that all children will receive teaching about the use of information texts.
