Some people insist that the use of regional accents represent inferior intellect. The following extract from a poem by William Wordsworth sheds some light on this matter:

Wordsworth’s own regional accent meant that water would have been pronounced ‘watter’, meaning that ‘chatter’ and ‘water’ represent a natural rhyme.
